If you have never read the book or seen any of the previous movies, you may be okay with this movie. If, however you are a fan of the book and ANY of the other movie versions, you will find this version disappointing. I understand that Greta Gerwig was trying to be true to Louisa May Alcott's feelings about the constrictive times in which she lived, she ruined the movie by not staying true to the story that the audience has loved for over a century.
Character development was non-existent, and the disjointed way in which the story was told was both confusing and frustrating. The acting was subpar, even for the veteran actors, and the casting was ridiculous. Timothee Chalumet was a wimpy and childlike Laurey, who was not believable as someone who champions the March family.
Save your money and see the previous versions, or better yet. Read the book!
