I've been in New Zealand for the last 15 years and the only news outlet that I seem to (reluctantly) gravitate to is The NZ Herald. Why? It has kept up with the times and the ever-shifting way that people consumed/watched content. The journalism is hardly NY Times level, but it's there when you need it and even if you're not paying attention. In comparison, Newshub looked dull, old-fashioned. I actually thought it was a legacy news agency that had seen better days. I stopped watching the news on TV around 2010. What's the point of describing your journos as having integrity and substance when you're unable to command attention for them in a vast ocean of content on different platforms? It's foolish to think you can keep on 'reporting the truth' without realising that it takes actual $$$ to make that possible. What happened wasn't personal, but I sympathise with those who lost their jobs.
