Fascinating critique of the american military. Lots of allegorical aspects like an endless war waged against a faceless, non-human enemy called simply "the Bugs", propaganda aimed at children, and the chilling notion that the state withholds citizenship until you make the decision to join the military, effectively making you irrelevant in your own culture until you have your limbs blown off in service of it. Lots to mull over here and the director buries most of it in the background so its easy to get caught up in the foreground action and not even realize you're watching a satire. Brilliant movie.
