So here’s what I like about the show:
Robert is hilarious! I would love to have him as a friend.
Ben is a good husband who has made a lot of compromises for the sake of his wife’s happiness even though it isn’t really acknowledged by Bat’s sister and mother.
Aron is determined to live his life on his own terms even though he has an overbearing mother that is determined to make him live his life according to hers. She behaves no better than the community that she talks down on.
Julia’s courage to not only create the life that she wanted for herself but to do it at the age of 43.
My dislikes:
Julia’s narcissistic and overbearing nature. She supports everyone choosing what they want in life as long as it’s in alignment with her way of thinking and on her timeline.
I’m not Jewish but it’s clear to me that there was some over exaggeration on Julia’s part when it came to her describing the orthodox community. Her nieces, who are Orthodox Jewish, were laughing and doing Tik Tok dances in Paris for goodness sake. Aron was dating an Orthodox Jewish girl and the girl’s parents were aware. I’m sure there are more inconsistencies but I can’t think of them at the moment and I haven’t watched all of the episodes yet.
Miriam, (I think that’s her name), telling her sister that she doesn’t think that her husband is good for her just because he said that he needed some time to get use to her wearing pants. They are literally asking him to abandon everything that he grew up knowing to be true and he is trying to play catch up with his wife even though this isn’t the lifestyle that he originally signed up for. He should be given an A++ for effort and not be judged and ridiculed for not moving at their pace.
Julia thinking that she had the right to include the details of her daughter’s sex life with her son-in-law in her book. If you want to write a book about the so called “hell” that you lived in then write about the hell that YOU lived in. Tell YOUR story, not someone else’s intimate story from your perspective. Why include their story? To make your book seem more interesting? You already talked about your sex life with your ex…like we get it already…
Robert’s adoptive mom making his desire to find out about his birth parent about her and her feelings instead of focusing on his needs.
Julia seemed like she was using that orthodox woman who reached out to her on social media as a storyline line. Just my opinion.
Bringing Robert to Paris just for him to babysit. Is he the COO or a glorified sidekick???
I wanted to watch the show because I was hoping to hear more about how exactly she was able to launch a shoe brand and reach great success in less than a year. Like how much money did she save while she was married? Did she take out a business loan?? Did she have a connection to someone that was able to help her??? Did she start out selling her shoes online straight to consumer? Or did she sell to boutiques?? Did she have any major setbacks during that first year or was it smooth sailing?? I was pretty bummed that she didn't go into detail with that. It’s clear that she is in the current position that she is in because she married up but she seemed to have done well for herself prior to that and so that is the part of her journey that I am most interested in.
Seemed like the focus of the show was sex, fashion and her disdain for the Orthodox Jewish community.
