An inspirational Texas story of perseverance with a great cast, spot-on mood and wardrobe from the depression, backed by an outstanding score. Performances by Luke Wilson and Martin Sheen are Oscar-worthy, and the roles played by Wayne Knight and Lane Garrison are memorable. Treat Williams, Ron White, Vinessa Shaw, Rooster McConaughey, Robert Duval, Jacob Lofland and Jake Austin Walker are also stellar. Director Ty Roberts has carefully crafted the outstanding Jim Dent novel into a movie that gets better with every viewing. Definitely worth a trip to the theater this summer. Like Friday Nights Lights, this story could easily morph into a long running series.
