This book is okay. Before I read this I did not know that this has a cult following so I went in with no expectations.
My biggest gripe is the fact that this is compared to 1984. I can see the similarities but with this it’s all through the lens of a teenager. Which, could be very interesting, but I don’t think it is all that great. You do not get really any context for how the world got to be the way that it is like you do in 1984.
Another issue I have is the whole Earthseed idea. In the beginning of the book I didn’t mind it, but towards the end it became annoying. I did not care about a teenagers religion that she made herself. Nothing is interesting about it.
In my opinion the first half of this book is much more interesting than the back half.
