It got an amazingly good rating ,I found it boring ,slow. Too much left wing bigotry, not enough exposure of some of the best actors ,excluding Brolin and Phoenix who were excellent, needed more Roberts ,Wilson and Witherspoon. The writer Anderson ,reputedly top notch could have learned something from Hunter S Thompson in this film. I seem to be in the minority ,unless most of the star critics never actually saw the film 3 yawns out of five ( boring) Zero Rabbits in the hat* (good rating) *Rabbit in the hat ,when a writer worms out of a tight spot by writing in a miracle(rabbit) eg. Hidden escape hatch found just in the nick of time.

Great stuff ,very watchable. I like the way detective Barnaby is seen with his family ,wife ,daughter and dog ,humanizes the key players ,in a very credible way.

Definitely left a lasting impression ,especially the chain scene. Borgnine was absolutely at his best. Marvin , perfect bigger than life.
