It feels like the punchlines are all written by an X-gen'er and the script had been waiting to be filmed for decades. It's odd watching a 16yo make references/jokes on 80s movies and 90s rock.... don't get me wrong, the jokes and references were written hilariously, they just seemed funny coming out of these young teens.
I wanted a little more info about the adults- i wondered why there was only one kid younger than high-school age- i wanted more timeline and more info about other towns.
the series was binged in 2 days lol the first half was amazing, the second half slowed down a bit.
A little too much breaking the 3rd wall and talking to the audience. We get it, but when overfed the same ol' joke, it dumbs down the audience. (Nothing like Ferris Bueller's epic 3rd wall narrations) Shout out to
Matthew Broderick as the principal!! He was amazing, and it was nostalgic to see Bueller Bueller Bueller in a highschool show.
Remember the "Wheeler Wheeler Wheeler" scenes? I think that was another subtle part of this show that the teens of today wouldn't catch.
<spoiler> the ending sucked marbles, and it sort of makes the audience feel cheated, watching and cheering for something that was so heartless and thoughtless. sam's character went from charming, to biiiiznaaaaatccchh.
The whole time I was thinking that half the script was written for 30+ crowd. Although it was definitely filmed for teens, most of the jokes probably went over their heads. The script is just sort of dumb enough, and smart enough, to grab a diverse crowd. The only way to explain it.
It was a guilty pleasure watching this.... I need a bath now.
So much potential, so much budget.... I wish it was wrapped up a little tighter.
PS: What happens when a 17yo turns 18? AH so many questions hahah
