I have to be honest. I was amazed at how lackluster some of the critic reviews were of this film.
True, it's not a "dazzling adventurous tale of the exploits of the notorious lawless lovers," but, it's quickly apparent to the viewer that this was a conscious choice by the filmmaker.
The pace is less sensational than perhaps an modern-action-film-junkie might prefer, but, the slower, cool burn, portions of the movie give way to charming period toned dialogue and wonderful character study scenes betwixt both solid performances of its perfectly cast leads.
It smacked, to me, almost of a "Public Enemies," but, from the perspective solely of the law. Great camera shots, without seizure-inducing cuts and a near poetic look at the grit and grunge of some of the earlier twentieth century American Midwest.
It isn't a breakneck-speed, adrenaline-fueled thrill ride, but, it has its intense moments; and, for the film lover than can handle a few breaths along the way, it's a beautifully shot insight into the road that the less publicized characters in this classic tale had to tred in order to bring the limelit killing frenzie of Clyde Barrow, his gang and his better half to its inevitable bitter end.
So, pour yourself a drink, put your feet up.... and enjoy... 👍👍
