This was a fascinating look into the experience of the build up, the war itself and the soldiers experiences of coming home once victory had finally been declared. So many first hand accounts of the recruiting practices, how so many under 18s were recruited not via deception, but their patriotism and spirit of wanting to help defend their country. In today's world i can not imagine many teens around 15-18 leaping at the chance to go into an active warzone. The experienced of these teenagers and men is recalled in vivid detail, artfully arranged by the director, sometimes you'll laugh at the absurdity, other times you'll recoil in horror at the events they faced during this war. Peter Jackson has produced a masterpiece with this and deserves more accolades for the time, work and effort put into the restoration and production of this masterpiece. It doesn't seek to glorify, only tell the truth from the soldiers perspective, the people who returned home, damaged but proud.
