Fred: The Movie isn't written to be a "Laugh out Loud" comedy. It's constructed to convey the very odd and uncomfortable dynamic of the American middle school experience. The humor is subtle and intellectually driven because the demographic is people who can relate to being a middle school teen, not adults born pre 2000.
