I'm only on episode one but if the rest of the remaining episodes are anything like the first, it is truly worth watching It is so well-acted, directed and produced. This episode is very graphic and not certainly meant for children. It is also very painful to watch, but nowhere near as painful to watch as it would have been to have lived during these times as a slave. The history of our country is complicated and filled with some really dark periods. The treatment of Blacks and Native Americans during those times thru the current day remains inexcusable. There were actually more enslaved Native American women than blacks during those days, but the history books still don't reflect that. These countless injustices and unforgivable human cruelties need to be told because it portrays those truths that people want to bury which are affecting how we all live today. We need this so we can all learn from it, make reparations and do better moving forward as a country. Our history books also need to be rewritten to reflect what actually happened. Statues need to be amended to reflect the true history of the time too, along with new statues reflecting our diverse nation. And lastly, we need to update our children's history books to provide an accurate history of blacks, Native Americans, Asians, Mexican Americans, and also women', rather than continue to portray our country's history from just an upper-class white man's perspective. Kudos to anyone who worked on this series. We need more of these.
