The source material is not something we typically see and that's what kept me watching it. The gods themselves have unique and interesting designs, the basic premise is pretty usual (go save the world, Shonen protagonist), but where I really found the show intolerable was two things - awful pacing which worsened the inherent unlikableness of the main character, and substandard animation during combat.
The character, constantly, in every single episode, freezes up in a fight. Like, all that personal growth and courage he showed last episode, finally overcoming his fears? Yeah, pretend it didn't happen. On MULTIPLE occasions in fights, someone does something terribly stupid like try to distract a monster so the team can flee. The team IMMEDIATELY STOPS RUNNING. For five minutes of real time. It's just agonizing. Every time. It's just so irritating. None of the fighting has any feel of impact; even when something gets hit so hard it explodes the sound design and animation gave you little indication of force or speed. Every single episode has 15 minutes of the MC crying about coming to terms with his destiny. Every singlen episode has the same, first-day squabbles between the team members, as if they didn't just save each other's lives several times in a row. This show is just frustrating to watch. It should be 6 episodes, it would actually make the show better than the hours they spend animating the main character standing in place with a slack jaw and glazed expression each episode. Truly, I finished this show out of frustration and hoping to see a cool South American inspired anime.
