I suppose I should realize the "Bill Nye the Science guy" was a character and allow him to play his new character "Bill Nye the political guy" but I just can't. It's akin to Steve Carell being cast as the villain. Once you see someone a certain way, it would have to be a brilliant performance to make him work as a vastly different character. This was not that type of performance. I see the show as opposite because the scientific approach is to experiment, observe, and allow the facts to form a hypothesis. The new show does the reverse by starting with a hypothesis and trying to fit facts around it. He also adds a technique that is well known to anyone with a incomplete argument; get louder and be condescending toward dissenting opinions. It's a tactic that does not sit with me well. When I agree with the opinion I don't feel edified in any way, and it grates on me when I disagree. The topics, concept and casting all look good to me on paper but somehow I think it missed the mark.
