My sole reason to order and read this book was these two quotes " deeper the grief closer you are to god" and " fear of appearances is the first sign of impotence". As you start reading this book the protagonist character named roman raskolnikov seems to be in a delirious state of mind always but even then his sense of observation and judgement is inch perfect ,his concerns towards the drunk man he meets in the inn ,towards his sister and mother all shows a deeper sense of empathy ever riding his character ,then comes his sense of getting the world rid of the evil by commiting a murder and rationalizing it with a reason that one bad deed resulting in hundreds good deeds ,which at first does not seems sensible enough to the reader ,what makes one really impressed with the plot made by Fyodor is that his impressions of the person to be married to his sister are crystal clear only after description of the situation in the letter posted to him . After that his sense of empathy shown to the family of the drunk man he met in the inn is something really altruistic ,example giving all his money for the funeral of the drunk man to the bereaved family ,moreover the character portrayal is fantastic even after all the generous activities raskolnikov is clever enough not to invite any suspicion but at the end the intelligent officer is comfortable enough to find out that he has committed the murder ,another character named razhumin who is a friend of the raskolnikov is his alter ego in some ways whom he finds fit to be a groom to his sister, the plot moves around the investigation of murder to the illness and generous activities of raskolnikov and at last falling in love with the daughter of the drunk man sonia who does not leaves him even after knowing all the truth ,the final argument during the trial is based on the good character of raskolnikov and his article behind the ideology that why he committed the murder ,in all its a gripping novel which makes you come face to face with the in depth details described by Dostoevsky at times it may bore you but majority times you will be in the pursuit of what is going to be the end result of all this story ,there are some quotes which resonate very deeply ,overall it's a nicely written novel one should read and explore the world through the eyes of the writer ....
