I read this book during covid 19. I liked the overall story. Very similar to other fantasy books but rich setting and a depth to the characters. Some characters are one dimensional. Kind of a coming of age tale.

It is an allegory about childhood Innocence and our ability, or lack thereof, to put our differences aside and do what is in the best interest of everyone.
The school at the end is the bird box. They will have to learn to adapt to a new life where sight can't be relied upon anymore.
People who are corrupted by the world are minions of the dark forces.
