Gripping and historical narrative of the dramatic and painful events leading to Partition

Mediocre. Merely because the movie talks good politics, it doesn't become good. Yes, the message of communal harmony and brotherhood is noble. But the movie is too over the top and feels very contrived. Humour works in certain places. But when the movie gets preachy, it becomes unbearable. Nivin has a charm, which makes the movie bearable to an extent.

Wonderful movie. It is a satire highlighting the theme of domestic violence. The tone of the movie is not sombre or serious; the makers convey the idea through comic moments. Yet, the real life tragic events like Vismaya case comes to mind while watching the film. The character of Jaya, battered and cornered by an abusive husband, finally decides to fight back. She blows several punches and kicks right at the face of patriarchy. And its both hilarious and inspiring at the same time. Excellent performances by Basil and Darshana and other supporting actors. Only slight grievance with the movie is that it’s a bit too long. May be could have trimmed half an hour, as scenes were getting a bit repetitive in second half . Nevertheless this story of female liberation is definitely worth a watch and it carries a timely message as well

#JaiBhim is a powerful movie. The fact that it's a true story shakes you up. The best part is that the narration is from the perspective of the victims. The police brutality is not used as a plot point to give a reason for the hero's show. The focus is throughout on Senganni and the miseries of Irular tribe who face constant police harassment. They are not dehumanized or relgated into the background. The court room scenes are very realistic. Suriya delivers a measured and subdued performance. #JaiBhim is deeply moving.

"Let the world know I was a revolutionary"... Sardar Udham was a deeply moving cinema experience. The life of Sardar Udham is depicted with a lot of pathos. It was relieving that the film had no hyper-nationalistic elements. To tell the story of #SardarUdham from a jingoistic perspective would have been a great injustice to him, as he was motivated by broader socialist ideas and solidarity with oppressed classes across the world. The scenes showing his friendship with Bhagat Singh are poignant. The final 40 minutes of the movie show the horrors of the Jalianwala Bagh massacre in its rawest form. The movie is a solemn tribute to the martyrs of Indian independence movement .

'Pariyerum Perumal' - a film with caste oppression faced by a youth in a law college as the backdrop, raises some troubling questions. The movie disturbs and shakes you up, though its narration and tone is heavily measured.
