I checked this book out of the library first, but I wound up buying my own copy because i needed to write in this book to engage with it properly. I loved how the language - full of passive voice and odd displacements and descriptions rather than proper nouns- created the feeling of living with violence and illogic as logic and was a source of the narrator’s power. I loved how the book is so bleak yet the last word is “laughter.” It reminded me a lot of Tristam Shandy. Caveat is this book is not for everyone- it’s dense and slow and hard to figure out what’s going on. As someone who loves how authors bend language to make their point, it get like it was written for me
