It's a story that cancels out all the horror movies about hiking. It's a story of a child coming to terms with her father's love for hiking and learning to enjoy that same life.
At first, I gave it a 3 star, then changed to four because I almost overlooked the story there. The story is more about a daughter and father's bond.
Many hate the fact that it doesn't come with the intense drama they're used to, which is understandable (movies should be for people, after you've produced it for your pleasure).
The idea of the story is a silent toggle between a father's idea and a child's support. Her father loves hiking and is even thinking about recruiting people to hike China. This is something his friend feels is irresponsible. You can tell Matt hates this hike but came to support his oldest friend. And as such, he forgets things that would keep him warm.
It's just a story of hikers and the things they face:
1. The strangers they'd meet, who might signup for their dreams.
2. The friends that don't believe in their dream and want them to return to the idea world.
At the end, we see the girl battling with her longing for modern day friendship over the bonding in the forest. Towards the end, she contemplated leaving it all behind, but eventually came to terms with the new life. My one star was because they could have added a deep backstory that made her eventually love hiking.
