A brilliant, sobering yet deeply heartfelt examination of the trashy, hopeless lives these prostitute/addicts lead; each of whom is eminently sympathetic. I was not bored for one second over the almost three hour film. Devastating, heartbreaking, as real and hard as scrapyard iron.

Eerie, unnerving film about the early days of atomic testing, and the roughshod ways of the US military in shoving Micronesians around so atomic bombs could be tested. The music--Dorothy Lamour singing "The Moon of Manakoora"--as an atom blast is seen from various angles, Bikini folk songs played by indigenous musicians, will haunt everyone who sees it.

I saw this TV series mentioned frequently but only recently bothered to try watching it. I've been disappointed with so many shows I figured chance was slim I would like this one. Boy was I wrong! The actors were all terrific, the scripts were brilliant, and I eagerly look forward to every episode I haven't yet seen. Nice to see Aidan Quinn in a major role. He seemed to have disappeared from the scene for many years. He does a great job here.
