Encanto is really a sad story. It's a story of loss, it reminds us how we wall people off who have been victimized, who reveal unpleasant truths we would rather ignore. In a cartoon, everything looks colorful and happy. We can show people instantly forgiving grievous wrongs that resulted in decades of pain and humiliation. In a mere moment of reflection, someone sings a song and has a change of heart.
Tio Bruno looks just like an outcast in my ex inlaws' family who died a number of years ago in a bathtub. He was a really nice guy who succumbed to the toxicity of his family, people who endlessly seek scapegoats amidst all their jolly revelries. So, this film is personal for me. I'm giving it 5 stars, for a magnificent effort.
