If you've ever been involved with a married professor, one thing you realize immediately is, you can't discuss your love life with your girlfriends. This film was helpful and wonderful to me for so many reasons, and from personal experience I must attest to its realism. See it!

This film reminded me of Cruz's earlier work in Twice Born (2012). If you're determined to see both films, see this one first.

Penelope Cruz makes truly incredible, thought-provoking films, she really does. The layers of meaning in Twice Born are worth wading through and contemplating. Ultimately, it makes a profound statement about how women can be defeated by our own natural desires for companionship and motherhood, how easily exploited we all are, and how no woman is ever in a position to condemn another woman or judge her for her choices.

Fell asleep early on the first 8 times I tried to watch this film, because none of what happens is believable from the very first scene. It's based on actual events that happened in Minnesota in the early 1990s. However, the Weinstein logo at the very beginning says it all: that women and children who allege sexual abuse are liars, and that men can't be held accountable for what they do when they're blackout drunk. That was Harvey Weinstein's thesis, and he had the platform to make this argument until he was exposed as a sexual predator in 2017 (also based on a true story).

Encanto is really a sad story. It's a story of loss, it reminds us how we wall people off who have been victimized, who reveal unpleasant truths we would rather ignore. In a cartoon, everything looks colorful and happy. We can show people instantly forgiving grievous wrongs that resulted in decades of pain and humiliation. In a mere moment of reflection, someone sings a song and has a change of heart. Tio Bruno looks just like an outcast in my ex inlaws' family who died a number of years ago in a bathtub. He was a really nice guy who succumbed to the toxicity of his family, people who endlessly seek scapegoats amidst all their jolly revelries. So, this film is personal for me. I'm giving it 5 stars, for a magnificent effort.

Made just before "don't ask don't tell," this practically unwatchable film hints at our marginalization of the LGBTQ community as well as our social objectification of women, but doesn't deal with ongoing trauma after assault. A woman couldn't shave her head in the military: it was against regs.

Heartbreaking: nice repetition of Cesar's bad comeon lines to show how empty headed and selfish he is, and that his life of entitlement revolves entirely around his physical appearance. Uncanny resemblance to Judd Nelson's character in The Breakfast Club sexually harassing Molly Ringwald.

This film closely shadows the book. It's text-rich and speaks volumes about American politics. Fiction is dangerous: ask Salman Rushdie. People suspected the JFK assassination was backlash from the truths it told about the post-Eisenhower Republican party. Johnny Iselin looks JUST LIKE Barry Goldwater! Don't waste your time with the remake.

Suggestive yet tasteful. Peter Sellers does the best interrogation I've ever seen on film. He's simply outstanding and iconic in his role as Clare Quilty. Should be required viewing for college-age females. Yes, it's based on fiction, but objectification and isolation from society can actually happen to women of any age, and, sadly, is quite common.

The sheath dress, the platinum blonde hair... Gretchen Carlson says it all: soldiers dress the same so everyone knows they're replaceable. Making such an excellent film about the packaging of femaleness as something to be exploited and discarded can only be seen as a public service. Masterful work!
