It’s a step up from other Christian films (“Fireproof, “Facing the Giants” etc.) but unlikely an Oscar Academy Award winner/Box Office record breaker film.
In my opinion, the book was better than the movie. I felt they could’ve flesh out the realities of sin better, but the sexual scenes were tactfully covered compared to most mainstream Hollywood movies.
I would be curious what my New Age friends would think about this movie. Would I have known this was a Christian film without having read the book prior? The whole undertone of this movie is demonstrating Christ’s redeeming love to humanity over and over again.
If this movie was more tailored to unbelievers rather than to Christian circles, I would’ve given it a 10/10 or even beyond if some scenes were better played out. Jesus came for the sick, not the healthy. (Matthew 9:10)
To reach & and understand the world, you have to know and live in the world, and keeping to our own Christian circles isn’t helping with that. Just as Jesus sat & ate with sinners and tax collectors of his day, so should we. (Matthew 13:10-13)
