I think there are evidences that 3500 to 4000 years ago there were structured music in mahenjodaro/ India valley civilization. Shyam vedas was particularly engaged in rhyms & associated music.
This book talks of shaman music...May be that is originated in the region of present day Peru.
Would be interesting to know...which one is older
