I watched this movie when I was around 10 for the first time and it has always remained one of my favorite movies. I don't recommend it for everyone, though, because I feel like to truly appreciate the movie you can't look at it through the lens of just wanting to watch something. The biggest complaints I've seen about it are that it has inappropriate jokes for children, is scary for children, has a difficult to follow plot, and that the voice acting is uncomfortable. When I first watched it I did not understand any of the jokes as they are really well-hidden, and most PG movies are like that because it helps adults enjoy the media just as well as kids. It only has one frightening scene that was more uncomfortable than scary, and one scene with a few drops of blood. One of my favorite parts of this movie is its plot that can be interpreted in many different ways, and also the strange, fever-dream-like animation sequences and plot points that really bring it together. The voice acting seems uncomfortable or run-on because it was made in French and the English voice acting is a dub.
Overall, this movie always fills me with so much emotion. It is beautiful, sad, thought-provoking and so much more. It's not a movie I can just watch because I simply want to watch a movie. It makes me feel so deeply and helps me fall in love with the world. I am very appreciative of this film and every part of it.
