My 14 yr old son and I have read all of his other books and we have loved them and each time a new book comes out, he reads it first and I normally have to wait for him to complete it (which doesn't normally take more than a week as he can't put them down when he starts to read them). On this occasion, he stopped reading The Secret Commonwealth after around a quarter of the way through as he said it was too confusing and he didn't enjoy it. I thought I'd show him that you should really finish a book once you start it and that that he probably just needed to give it some more time before it started to get as exciting and intriguing as the other volumes. I have to say that it wasn't an easy ready but I didn't give up as I kept thinking it would start to excite me at some point but after finishing it last night, I am so very disappointed. It was very confusing and it never really felt like it flowed and I have to agree with my son. I only kept on reading in the hope that at some point I would enjoy it. The ending was also a huge disappointment and I very much doubt that I or my son will want to read the next volume after this, which is such a great shame.
