A deeper movie than expected. I searched Tony Randall films and this came up. I enjoyed it immensely. It’s a movie about how people are used for many reasons and how you got to become strong if you aren’t going to be devoured by the hyenas in this world

I watched this movie after watching a documentary on Lady Di in which her butler says that Diana could play the music on piano and how they would sit and watch this with kleenex. I wanted to see why this movie was so emotional for Lady Di. I can only think maybe because what Diana wanted in life was to be truly loved. I see the unattached husband as Charles. This movie will always make me feel the anguish Lady Di and some people have at never being able to find and keep true love. Love the intense close-ups on her face.

I enjoyed this film so much. My dad was an aristocratic Hungarian who had to leave Hungary in 56’ He came to Canada and married my Scottish mom. They had many dinner parties and we always had good friends that were also European immigrants. I had to hear these prejudices all the time. It is hard to not have cliches in these coming of age, immigrant movies, but I love them. These movies remind me of how immigrants from Europe had to adjust to a new culture and struggle. I loved the cast in this and the nostalgia. It was the perfect movie for a post-Christmas, New Year’s Day.

Interesting thought. Thank goodness Mengele was not the one cloned, he was pure evil. Olivier was belivable in his role but I found Peck as Mengele a let down.
