Diamond and Pearl were succeeded by Platinum 2 years later, widely regarded as the best 3rd version and by some (including me) as the best game in the entire series. It fixed several weak points, but most notably it A.) totally changed the games aesthetic by adding a cryptic & "creepy" aura, & B.) added 59 Pokemon to the regional Pokedex which was severly lacking in options & variety. BD/SP makes no attempt to mimic Platinum's superior aesthetic, ie (compared to Plt); the Team Galactic buildings are bland & forgettable, the color pallet for the outside is stark rather than subltle, Mt. Coronet is just a boring old cave instead of a mystic mysterious place. Most of the Pokemon made available in Plt. are still accessible in BD/SP but strictly underground, & the Trainers/Bosses use the limited 151 of the original regional dex, resulting in battling the same Pokemon over and over and over. These details make the titles feel almost like a middle finger directed twords those of us who grew up playing the original gen 4 titles.
