I enjoy Super. DBZ was definitely the better show overall(coming from someone who didn’t grow up on it), but Super has some things that feel superior. The new god forms, yes they are basically base form and Super Saiyan in god mode, but I feel like the concept of someone getting a taste of power beyond comprehension is solid. I do think Blue is kinda unnecessary. If it’s called Super Saiyan God, I think it should’ve been the final transformation with having red Super Saiyan hair. Goku’s kinda dumb now, but he was always like this. His childish side is amplified to an unnecessary degree, but I warmed up to it. The dialogue felt like an abridged series and I found it hilarious. Animation was meh, trash in the beginning, but it wasn’t too bad going forward.
The tournament of power with Caulifa(butchered the name probably) becoming Super Saiyan was poorly executed. The fact that Kefla stood up to Blue even if Goku may have been holding back is absurd. I don’t care for UI. It feels like a sort of cop-out. The trust and friendship thing at the end was semi-tolerable because other animes emphasize it to a much higher degree (no shade but I’m looking at you, Fairy Tail), but... why? Jiren just doesn’t feel relatable in the slightest and he’s basically just an overpowered enemy that has a meh backstory to his motives and goals considering he is literally one of the strongest in the TOP, and the crazy OP characters(like Frieza in Z and Broly transferred to the canon) usually have ample development time. The main focus of Dragon Ball is the battles, but I feel Goku going from universal defender to just battle-hungry was a bad call.
Overall, I liked Super and honestly can’t wait to see if Season 2 comes to fruition. Hopefully they’ll improve upon some flaws in the first season. 8/10 from me.
