Most of the reviews and descriptions of this movie are wrong. It is not a black comedy, nor a dystopian plot. It is straight up theater of the absurb using those tropes purely as a vehicle for this message of absurdity. It does have glimmers of a message that are somewhat tripe.
Trying to explain theater of the absurd is too long for this quip. Just google the term, and this movie will make sense. A famous example is Waiting for Godot, which is much better done. Lobster is all over the place, lurching from one absurdity to the next. It had its creative moments clearly and some black comedy. But it is primarily off the wall and does not work.
Movie industry people get jaded making the same stuff, so anything "creative" and new gets attention for that reason alone. Lobster fits that category.
