I never watched the movie when it first came out, I never really liked musicals back then. Recently I decided to finally watch it after developing a taste for musicals and I actually liked the movie and the songs a lot, the actors were amazing and there's not much to complain about.
However, the one thing I just couldn't get past is the glorification of P.T Barnum. The movie did an excellent job covering up the REAL history of that man and his "attractions", as does the media, painting him as nothing more than an opportunistic entrepreneur trying to rise in the ranks of fame. I truly don't think the movie would have done so well if people actually knew more about him and who he really was.
I understand though, Disney wants the dreamlike fairy tale-esque type of movie while downplaying all the not so picture-perfect parts. All in all, it was a good movie, it just bothered me a lot the whole time watching it and I think my review reflects that more than anything.
