Adding something before my review, as someone of color and also female, among other stuff that isn't represented a lot, I looked forward to this movie. Amazing trailer, seems funny and something that many would want to see.
That's what you think at first but the whole movie feels like a bad T.V. Disney movie.
The comedy is best suited to those 8 and younger, however the adult jokes, which fail in my opinion, make the movie unsuitable for such a young audience.
Also it is 2019, you would expect technology would be shown better in the movie, however as you learn that the main character works as a CEO for what seems as an app development company, you see that they use cheap 3D that made me think I was watching Spy Kids.
Also one of the "winning" ideas for an app was a dumb unrealistic idea that makes no sense or has no appeal. It's hard to watch a movie that seems aimed towards an audience who can comprehend a plot and fail on those points.
I understand that it is more of a family film but the comedy just doesn't feel like it is there.
It really feels like a cliche movie from the early 2000's made on Disney or Nickelodeon for T.V. viewing only.
Be warned as well that the trailer tries to show just good parts and doesn't accurately show the film. Parts of the trailer such as the teacher we get acquainted to is basically the only scene you see him in, I know different people who thought there was a romance with him or something along those lines, not true, he really is only there for that scene.
I'm upset that this movie wasn't good at all, I was looking forward to it.
However everyone has different tastes, I would agree with most reviews giving this around 40% out of 100, but you never know if you'll like it or not.
I also want to add, this isn't a film for some teenage girls either. It's like the equivalent of saying "This movie gots swag" and thinking they would understand that and think that was cool of you to say. This is the type of movie that perhaps a parent would expect a 13 year old to like, but they would rather watch something with more mature comedy than comedy that is the equivalence of jokes from Disney channel.
Think of it this way, around that age shows like Degrassi are what teenagers would watch more than shows like Henry Danger or something off Disney.
