It is not a fresh translation from the original langauges and at times distorts what they say. John 8.58 is prime example as it's 'translation' has no basis in the actual Greek. This is undoubtedly because its author does not believe that the person Jesus Christ existed before becoming a man. Hence for these reasons I can not recommend the NEV at all.
