The movie is alright. Just alright. The main thing this has going for it is the book and its outstanding plot which it mutilates for 2 hours. In a vacuum, this movie still warrants a star just for what little of the plot it retained. The director took a strange middle road trying to appeal to both people who had never heard of the book and people who had read it. From the perspective of someone who loved the book, this came as a complete disappointment; however, I can see how this movie could be enjoyable to someone who was never exposed to the book. The sound design and set design is well done and gives the movie a leg to stand on and a star to go along with it. I especially enjoyed these aspects in some of the later scenes. The script writing and acting leaves much to be desired in many cases and is one of the main detracting points from the movie as a whole. All in all an alright adaptation based on a great book.
