I hesitate to post this review in part because I have had the privilege of meeting and talking to Tim Chey. He is a very nice, sincere, and humble man. He spoke of how proud he was of this film.
I truly feel bad about how poorly this film has been received. I have to agree with the poor reviews though. I personally would not take non-Christian friends to this.
I won't pile on. Most of the negative points with casting, script, and filming have been covered.
I do have to mention one glaring omission to the criticisms though. The real Bali nine story takes place over a period of 10 yrs. The lead female who married the lead male NEVER had a wardrobe change the entire movie. I found things like that to be puzzling.
I think that Tim Chey had an incredible vision to take on a project like this. I'm impressed that he was able to get the stars that he did and actually produce this.
Don't let this defeat you Tim. Take all of these criticisms to heart. Don't try to do all writing, casting, and many others things yourself and with family. Get outside professional help and advice up front.
I know that your next project can be great and greatly used.
