Brilliant series! The character and plot development were very profound and captivating. It is still the same classic revenge story, parental and identity issues, backstabbers everywhere .......
However, the cinematography is one of the best of all the Chinese series Ive watched. I loved the bond and understanding between the Empress and queen. The Emperor is just hilarious! Ling Bu Yi is epic!!!! The way the camera captures him after killing his "father" was pure genius and very impressionable. Cheng Shao Shang's character bordering on stubbornness and being resolute was quite the roller coster of emotions, one time feeling sorry for her and another annoyed at her stubbornness.
All in all from the lead to the supporting actors who were brilliant (special love for Leo Wu, hands down one of the best actors!), in all the twists and turns, the highs and lows and "holding my breath moments" this was an excellent series, well worth the over 2000 minutes!
PS. Ling Bu Yi must have more than 9 lives! How does he keep turning up just when you think that's the end??
PSS. I actually appreciated all the fighting and killing scenes, they did not hold back on the "reality effect" which makes the series even more authentic.
