I am not one for playing single player games, but FTL twisted my arm to see what it was all about and I was hooked.
It is a top-down space simulator / strategy game in my books.
So you need to take vital documents to the Federation while staying out of reach of the rebel fleet close on your heals.
You are in command of a space ship and its crew where you manage your energy, upgrades, crew and resources for your ship. A map provides you with the means of jumping to the sectors you want in order to reach the exit and closer to your end goal.
For a 2D pixel art game with minimum animation, the complexity is very good. There are a lot of options and decisions to make.
Each jump you make tells a short story. It may be another ship on distress an enemy encounter or some other decision to me made.
This is what makes it great and the fact that the map and events are randomly generated. This gives great replayability.
The game does not really rely on skill and a few bad jumps will see you burn.
But I do not play the game to finish it but rather to unwind for 15 to 30 minutes while it tells me a story.
I think it is worth a try.
