Before I begin, I do want to say that if I hadn't read the books, I would probably rate the series much higher. My girlfriend and her daughter love the show, and to be fair it's not bad. If it was a stand alone series not attached to a well known epic fantasy book series. It wouldn't be bad.
When I heard that the show was being made and released I was very excited, because I really liked the books.
While I am a fan of the books and was excited to watch the series, I didn't start watching the series until recently. Due to the very mixed reviews.... While I usually do not pay much attention to such things this time I should have listened to my intuition and just ignored the show completely.
The biggest problem I have with the series is that it deviates from the source material soooo much.
Perrin doesn't get married till later in the book series, Rand and Egwene never "hook up" yet they do in the show, the Fades look kind of laughable instead of scary and menacing, the actors also look a bit older than they are in the books, and not to mention the spell casting, while it looks interesting, any Aes Sedai taking that long to "weave" the one power would be torn apart or just simply struck down. The deviation from the books is almost too great and it makes it hard to watch.
However, as I stated earlier. As a separate show, set in the same world. It's an ok and very watchable show. It's fast paced has decent action, and has interesting moments. If you are a fan of the books and do not mind huge deviations from the written source material, or if you've never read the books. The series isn't bad and will keep you entertained, but please do not think that it relates to the books.
