**Disclaimer***
I have a TON of respect for the men and women who took a leap of faith and took time away from their families to write, and produce this series. I know this stuff isn’t easy and this is just the observation of a guy on his couch who loves to watch a lot of film. Also, I feel like deep down I should be a film critic (if they still call them that).
I’m a sucker for a good action/drama/cop/bad guy/good vs evil type show. I was really in until season 3.
In season 3, Detective Pierce is talking to Jerry (Bosch’s Partner) about his investigation. During the quick chat, Pierce mentions a “Bezel”. This prompts Jerry to ask “What’s that?” (Or something to that effect). Pierce goes on to explain that a bezel is a part of a watch.
It made my mind explode because
1. Jerry is a grown man, who wears a 3 piece suit and matching shirt/tie with the coordinated belt AND watch to work...on almost every episode. This guy is sharp, well dressed, and thoughtfully coordinated every time we see him. Keep in mind that he wears a watch as well and he drives a luxury sedan.
2. Why would this kind of man be unaware of the term “bezel” and what it does?
It made me feel as if they shortchanged his character. Even though, so far, he serves in a supporting role (at best) he’s not even worth the respect. As if that character is so uneducated that even though he has a firm grasp of FORMAL style, his intelligence isn’t deep enough to have known, as a homicide detective, dressed to the 9s....what a bezel is?
He has a line in this episode about Italian suits. He asks a colleague about his suit and they guy says...”are you the fashion police” Jerry literally responds “I know my Italians” [suits]
And he’s black......so now I feel like they low key tried to play him. It’s like Bosch asking what a “magazine” is....it doesn’t make sense.
