Midsommar is a cult classic, literally. The decision to shoot the film in broad daylight was a wonderful and well-informed choice. This was an experience that could not be replaced by any other. Sure, I am scarred for life and I have a new outlook on how a film's tone affects it, but it is a choice I would never undo. In one of the opening scenes in Dani's parents' house, there was a lot of the color yellow. Having previously watched a video on how yellow is often used the the horror genre to signify something terrible soon to happen, this was an interesting phenomenon to experience in real time. Some yellow things in that scene include firemen's hats, a yellow hose, a yellow t-shirt Dani's sister is wearing and a yellow throw on her parents' bed. A good example of how not everything is black and white in real life. There are so many layers to what is good and bad and this movie demonstrates those very well. No characters is really 'good' and no character is really 'evil'. All of the characters are a mixing pot of good and bad decisions, just like in
reality. Overall, this movie is really intense, and I even had to skip some scenes because of it's intensity. If you feel you can handle nudity, gore and decent into insanity, I recommend Midsommar.
