This show is great combination of humor, good writing, and good casting. Irony is key: Lucifer blames everything on his father- usually we blame everything bad on Lucifer. Lucifer becomes the (albeit debauched, hard drinking) good guy who comes to see the importance of human emotion and traditional values such as loyalty, unselfish love, an even self sacrifice. His mother comes to earth as a more destructive force than Lucifer, etc. The dialogue is witty, often funny, and very contemporary. Tom Ellis is pitch perfect: lovable at the same time arrogant, critical, and self absorbed. Can’t imagine anybody playing the role better. Lauren German makes a good foil for Lucifer in the character of Chloe. All the characters move in and out of the stories but never seem forced. It’s good that they did not keep the mother theme going as it would have worn thin. I love the concept of Lucifer as hip playboy on vacation in LA (where else?) who has a therapist and who gradually realizes his human, all too human, nature and becomes attached, to his surprise, to the humans he struggles to understand. The finale at end of season 4 was somewhat Hallmark but it worked and despite being a little corny was moving. Season 5 is coming in August and I’ve got it on my calendar. I’m re-watching all previous seasons again now. I’m so glad it’s been renewed. 👍👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
