Thoughts on joker (NON-SPOILER): This is relatively small writing on my thoughts on the joker. It'll take me a few days before I can write everything there is to write about it for me.
Joker is a brilliantly made film and in its first viewing, it comes out as a horrifying mirror to today's society. On a technical level, it's one of the best of the decade, with a great score by @hildur_gudnadottir. It's chilling, it's very uncomfortable and creates a great sense of horror. @lawrencesherdp cinematography is brilliant and helps define Arthur as a character and even Gotham as a character. @toddphillips1 makes some brilliant choices, takes amazing risks and succeeds. And Joaquin Phoenix, the guy is just brilliant. I think he should have won the academy for master, but that was one tough category when he was nominated. His must win it this year. I can see why the film won the Golden Lion. It's sharp, provocative, smart and brilliantly made film.
To speak about the controversy, the film doesn't take a moral or political stance, it just shows us the life of Arthur fleck, people can interpret however they like, can some people interpret it negatively? Of course, is it the films or filmmakers fault. NO, IT'S NOT. The marvel and Deadpool films have desensitized violence to a rather unhealthy level, joker makes you realise that violence sucks, is horrible, it causes pain suffering, both physiological and psychological. *I saw this film twice continuously. After seeing it the first time, I regretted buying that ticket. I was in shock, a state of Catharsis and was horrified and psychologically broken because it made me very scared as it was grounded in a 100% realistic lens, and was a very contemporary and relatable story. The second time, I took it in stronger, I was able to appreciate the Filmmaking on a more analytic level. I overhyped myself since it was announced, but none of that affected my emotional and physical reception to it!!!
