There hasn’t been a movie that spoke to me more than the film Dìdi.
First of all the asian stereotypes in the movie were completely gold, parents comparing their own kids and the umbrella outside was a nice touch.
Growing up as an asian boy, it wasn’t as easy fitting in as others. I’ve always had trouble trying to fit in with what’s “cool” or what the “cool kids” were doing. Chris having a tough time trying to be sociable or interesting like his older skateboard friends or his best friend Fahad turned everything downhill. Recognizing that he wasn’t himself anymore,he wasn’t happy trying to be someone who he wasn’t. All his emotions piling up then putting his anger on his family made me reflect more.Even his relationship with his older sister was another thing I could easily relate to.But at the end of the day no matter how sad you feel or less of a person you feel because of the mistakes you made, your mom will always be support you and giving you the love no matter the situation she is in.Being a teenager isn’t just a section of life that’s tough to pass through, but it’s a reminder to always face reality.
