I really wanted to enjoy this with such a great cast and a brilliant source material but unfortunately it’s just become a big disappointment with some average performances, Jenna Coleman in particular is just irritating as Constantine without the charm that the character should have.
Also unfortunately as people will see in the reviews it’s become a bit of a review football between people who view the world in particular ways and those who disagree, but it should be purely about the content of the story and the acting performance.
For me as a fan of the comics it just didn’t live up to the expectations when everything looked to be perfectly in place but it just wasn’t to be.
Hopefully we will see better performances in the second season from the weaker cast members while a continued brilliance from the likes of Gwendoline Christie, Boyd Holbrook, David Thewlis and Vivienne Acheampong.
On a slight side note I usually love Patton Oswalt but I just didn’t get him as Matthew the Raven from his comic book history, but if I was new to the DC world it would probably have been a more enjoyable performance, I don’t think he did anything wrong, but Cable was a very different character as I saw him.
I’ve given this 3 stars as if you watch the program for entertainment value without knowing the history of the story you’ll probably enjoy it more, and if people can just leave the arguments over race and sexuality aside and just enjoy the performances and story than it’s watchable, but as a comic fan, it was underwhelming for me personally.
