It is a movie that recounts the coming-of-age experience for a 13 year girl. So just like most of the coming-of-age film, it is not for the kids. If the parents are expecting a kids/family movie, watch it first and make your own judgement. It is a strange combination of cute characters and a lot of racial stereotypes + teenager rebellions that only adults could fully appreciate. Not a terrible movie for adult but, again, not a easy movie for family. Strongly recommend the parents watch first and make your own judgement.
