This platform used to be fun up until about 3 or 4 years ago when the user base began falling off dramatically. The only thing you get now are a lot of people with no profiles and who cannot form any kind of response that makes sense (aka: bots.....the place is just bot haven right now). There to entice you spend money since there is no monthly subscription. They want to give you hope before they just vanish without a word after you spend.
Land/good objects are ridiculously priced. You are looking at around $50 a month (yes...a month) to create anything decent. At least double that for something really cool. That's just for the land.
You have to buy the objects to put on your land too. Good ones aren't cheap. Plan on at least a few hundred bucks investment to make anything not look like trash. (And probably around $50 on top of that to not make your avatar look like trash too!)
Oh, and if you're foolish like me and took over 7 years of time, effort and money to get good at it. Don't make a single person mad! Because:
Their "Support" Team completely went off of the rails. If one person does not agree with you then they have the ability to make as many sock puppet accounts as they want, flood you with reports and get you banned. Just like that. No warnings or chance to defend yourself ahead of time.
Want to appeal the ban? LOL! Too bad! The "Support" team usually takes days to respond and when they do it's always the same copy/paste response that an outsourced, lazy "Support" team does. A group of people flat out told me that they would troll me with reports until I got banned. Then they did. No wonder the user base is falling apart. I wouldn't be surprised if it was even halved without the sock puppets/bots.
In conclusion, Second Life is an investment if you really want to try to enjoy it. Unfortunately, you can't enjoy it in 2023+. Do not waste your time starting or burning your money. There are FAR more enjoyable (and affordable!) social platforms out there.
