Well, I’m Gen X and I grew up on the original show and as an adult, I’ve also watched the entire series of TNG, DS9, and Voyager 3 times over. All of these shows are cut from the same fabric with technology being the only real difference. They were sci fi with a sprinkling of focus on relationships. Discovery seems more like a focus on relationships in the midst of some sci fi incidents. Maybe to connect with the sensitive social , emotional needs of the current generations. I’ve never heard “I love you” so much in a sci-fi show before. When I want sci-fi, that’s what I want. When I want sensitivity, love, compassion etc, I’ll go watch Terms of Endearment. Nevertheless, Discovery is for the new Gen. I get it. I’ll just continue to watch reruns of the oldies.
