As a BIG fan of the original show I will rate this show 4/5 as I enjoyed the series and I want to see more seasons of it. However, I do hope that they have a look at the critique and make certain basic improvements. I think a lot of the reviews especially 3-4 ratings are spot on. My review will be short and to the point. Like most, I watched the show with an open mind and was impressed with the superb bending sequences, the fighting sequences and that the story is overall darker. I enjoyed the pace and the casting was for the most part good. I was happy with how they took the key locations, characters and stories and merged them into a new plot( obviously expected changes were to be made). Undoubtedly, the actor’s playing Sokka and even more so Prince Zuko did a phenomenal job . My favourite adaptation/ surprise is seeing Avatar Kyoshi’s fight scene! However, a big let down in my opinion was that the dialog and acting felt like an amateur, school production. One moment that comes to mind is Zhao saying ‘we do not get VIPs’. How did that make the script!?!? Or the fact the Gyatsu’s skeleton looked like kids at a school play staged it. Also, Katara as well as Azula and her friends were honestly very poorly presented and their performances were amateurish and mediocre at best. Most importantly, my biggest complaint is the avatar lacked the original purpose of the series: TRAVEL THE WORLD TO MASTER ALL FOUR ELEMENTS AND SAVE THE WORLD. I just do not understand how they didn’t concentrate on that key part. He never practiced water or any other bending. Overall, my take is that the show has some truly excellent performances, scenes and adaptations but also some really bad parts to it as well. I enjoy watching it and I genuinely hope they make more as it’s my favourite show and I doubt they will ever have a third remake but, I pray that they take the feedback on board. I understand you cannot please everyone but these are the basics.
