Absolutely brilliant game. The perfect mix of the hardcore sim-like feel of Squad and Post Scriptum and the graphics, fun and accessibility of the Battlefield games. The atmosphere is incredibly intense, so much so that I still feel genuinely scared at times, as a mix of MG fire and artillery explosions fill my ears. It's got tanks too. They are scary...* I definitely recommend it (there's a free weekend running right now), but please - get a mic if you haven't already. You can play without communicating, but you will have a much better time if you do.
Game is early access so there are issues, like the optimisation which is honestly awful. However, the devs are incredible active and engaged with the community. They've promised a massive amount of content to come (take a look at the roadmap), and so far updates have been regular and as promised. The most recent update overhauled animations and weapon sounds and was an absolutely massive improvement.
Community is awesome, devs are awesome, game is awesome. I'm really excited - honoured even - to be involved in the development of this upcoming FPS. Hopefully I'll see you in the field :)
*... but not invincible. My favourite gaming moment of all time was in this game, when I destroyed my first tank (a German Panther). I vividly remember trying to flank it as an anti-tanker, under heavy fire. I was sprinting from tree to tree, my screen grey and shaking as the air around me was filled with the sharp cracks of rifle and MG fire. There was a real sense of camaraderie and teamwork, as my team members constantly updated me on the tank's position and provided covering fire and smokes. I finally got close enough to smash a desperate bazooka round into the Panther's side... and BAM, I blew it straight back to Berlin on Hitler's face. Cue lots of "well done"s from my teammates, which made me feel great. The whole experience was immensely satisfying.
