Grew up as a massive fan of the originals. Ironically enough episode 1 was what my friends were ranting about - was 10/11 when it came out. I didn't hate 1-3. I enjoyed them as a child. And as an adult I enjoy certain aspects - mostly the light saber fights between Darth maul & the Jedi (Qui Gon & Obi Wan). Episode 3 was my favorite despite order 66. But up untill a couple years ago I'd regularly only watch 4-6. I think JJ really really did Lucas proud. Rian tried to create his own formula. But there's a reason this movie breaks box office records 9 times out of 9. People LOVE the star wars formula. They had so much to cover. Rey & Ren being the main 2 characters. Spoiler's alert: . . . I loved the part where she pushed Finn back to fight Ren alone. Showed her true power & that as much as everyone wanted the story to be about them 2. It wasn't. It was about Rey & Ren. The inside jokes between both Poe & Finn wanting Rey & how oblivious she was to it all was also a factor I loved. She only saw them as friends. Poe's long lost "female friend" threw another spanner into the works. I just realized they reused Anakin & Luke's stories 😂 Rey had Anakin childhood. No idea who Anakin father was/ Rey's parents But had Luke's ending: Finding out your father/ grandfather is evil - Vader/ palpatine but choosing not to kill them & continue cycle. Ren had Luke's childhood but with real parents. But fear turned him to the dark side like Anakin. Luke trying to kill Ren = Anakin premonitions about padme dying. Ren had Anakin's/ Vader's ending. Turned to light side & gave his life to defeat palpatine. Mind. Blown. One of my favorite moments is when the resistance ships are falling. Poe's speech about how "They will come. The resistance is bigger than us" seemed futile. Hope was lost. For Lando & Cheque to bring the civilian army through the maze was CLASSIC star wars formula. Drop your hope to bring you back. Honestly can't fault much expect the unnecessary appearances of the pawgs - guess they have to keep their toy line Strong. Babu Frik is the ULTIMATE scene stealer. I loved every scene with him in it. The only negative I'll say is the voices of the past Jedis should be slowed & a little louder. If the movie could afford to run another 15-20 minutes it would be less rushed & perfect. 9/10.
