Loved what they did with the movie and the colors and visuals were stunning! I gave three stars instead of 5 because: I wanted a stronger more demanding tone from the King as in the original he gave the perfect balance of loving father and strong commanding presence and tone. There was one song from the prince that I could have done without and I missed seeing the sea creatures playing instruments in the under the sea scene. Those things aside all else was wonderful. They eliminated the daughters of Triton song 😡 and I had mixed feelings about the daughters being of different races as is makes the king seem like merwhore. (But maybe in mermaid world genetics work differently and maybe the look different based on the area of the sea they were conceived in 🤷🏽‍♀️ so I let that slide 🙄 Missed the sparkling blue dress scene. Had an issue with her talking to scuttle about her treasures under water instead of above the surface. I wasn’t expecting Ursula to be my favorite but she absolutely was! However they left out the part where Ursula convinced her that she would still be able to win the princes affections using her looks and body language. Instead Ariel doesn’t seem to need much convincing at all and just agrees that her voice is the price she will have to pay. This took away from the moment if you ask me though I can see why they may start to shift that message these days (though it actually is a useful skill to have as long as we don’t teach girls that is all you need to have. Yes I understand that was exactly Ursula’s message but she was indeed a villain. Good movie but for fans like me it fell short of expectations.
